While Nashville has experienced tremendous growth over the past decade, it remains a small, connected community in so many ways, and it's fun to watch those connections come together for good.
In 2023, when Whiskey House co-founder John "JB" Brittle gave a tour of Whiskey House House to William Foushee, now the Nashville nonprofit's Director of Communications, the first thing William asked JB - well, after "Where'd you get so much whiskey?" - was, "Can Whiskey House help me raise some money for a buddy who has ALS?" It took exactly one second for JB to say, "Of course we can. It would be our honor!" Whiskey House and friends of the Whiskey House raised $16,000 for that friend just two months later, and one of the connections made at that fundraiser was Jordan Ennis.
Jordan is one of the nation's leading voices for ALS research. His family, through the inspiration of his sister, started the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s Night of Hope Gala in 2006, which is held in Atlanta every year. This event has become the largest ALS Event for MDA in the United States.
This year, Whiskey House will have the privilege of being part of the Night of Hope fundraiser on March 14.
Fast forward to the ALS Association kick-off meeting in Nashville at Nashville Barrel Company on March 5 of this year, where Jordan and William were hanging out, enjoying an NBC 9-year, honey-finished bourbon, and in walks the one and only Ron Slay, VFL (Vol for Life) and former Volunteer basketball great, who reminds William that he wants to take him up on a tour of Whiskey House Nashville soon. (After March Madness is over, Slay, be patient, you have work to do!). Ron was attending in support of his nephew, who lives with ALS.
Lots more to this story, but ... Ron invited Jordan to be his guest on 3HL/104.5 The Zone to talk with him and co-hosts Brent Dougherty and Dawn Davenport about the challenge of growing ALS research funding.
Whiskey House will continue to do its part to raise funds for ALS! Towards that goal, it feels like there might be more to these small-town relationships coming soon!
Enjoy the interview!
